Un dizionario online a prima vista davvero completo. Lo ha realizzato Google e lo ha messo in linea senza avvertire nessuno, come ormai fanno d’abitudine quelli dell’azienda di Mountain View. Tanto, qualcuno, prima o poi, lo nota (o forse, qualcuno dalla grande G, lo rivela informalmente). In questo caso, e’ stato il Los Angeles Times a scoprire la nuova iniziativa e ad informarne il mondo. E, fatto sta, che questo dizionario sembra poter dare delle vere soddisfazioni: offre lo spelling (con file audio), le definizioni, le espressioni correlate, i sinonimi, le definizioni web. Digitando ad esempio, Spark (impostando da inglese ad italiano e viceversa) si scoprono le parole (scintilla, favilla, barlume) e i verbi (provocare, sfavillare, scintillare) ma anche frasi come “Check the spark plugs, please” (Controlli le candele, per favore). Oltre ai sinonimi (verb: scintillate, glitter. Noun: scintilla, flash) e le definizioni web con tanto di link. Le lingue a disposizione, in tempo reale, sono per ora 28 comprese cinese tradizionale o semplificato, arabo, gujarati, kannada, telugu etc). Ogni risultato puo’ essere salvato. Un servizio che potrebbe somigliare, seppur lontanamente, a Wikipedia, ad Answers.com e ad altri dizionari online e che non va confuso assolutamente con Google Translate.
