This dictionary was compiled by hydrogeologists from Germany, Mexico and Nicaragua. German and Spanish expressions were established by native speakers, all of them with a good knowledge of English and some French. However no native English or French speaker has reviewed the dictionary so far. Using the dictionary you will additionally recognize that some translations are still missing in one or more languages while they are already available in others. Further some special expressions you are looking for might be neglected at all.

Polex: a Terminological Knowledge Base Polex+®, a police lexicon officially known as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police English-French Police Terminological Glossary, is a terminology management tool. It respects the terminology principles outlined by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO 704). Terminology management is the part of information management that provides an organization with the tools to stay in line with the terminology of statutes, and politically and socially correct phrases. It harmonizes in-house terms and names, and ensures consistency of meaning in its internal and external communications. The orginality of Polex lies in its hybrid nature between a conventional term base and a knowledge base, as defined in artificial intelligence. Its collection of terminology records forms a computerized architecture, and numerous sub-glossaries are designed as highly structured sets of knowledge that can be programmed to automatically generate conceptual trees and "extensional" definitions. Thus, Polex is a terminological knowledge base. These characteristics make Polex the first police database suited to computer-assisted translation (CAT), instructional techniques, thesauri applications (such as information storage and retrieval), and technical writing.
