ravvedimento in Italian means, in legal or moral contexts, "to repent"; Jacek's solution sounds quite good to me, but I'd add "voluntary" because in this context this is the meaning: the alleged tax-dodger "repents" (or just realizes his error) and "voluntarily" corrects it (operoso = operates to...)
