The third Wave feminism is a philosophy that emerged in the 1990s. Like all feminism, the Third Wave focuses on the economic, political, social, and personal empowerment of women. This newer form of feminism focuses more on the individual empowerment of women and less on activism. It celebrates women’s journeys to build meaningful identities in the complex contemporary world.
Most women who identify themselves as Third Wave feminists or who are drawn to this philosophy is young. Many are part of the Generation X demographic (born roughly between 1966 and 1976) or are from Generation Y (born roughly between 1977 and 1997). Some Third Wave feminists are the children of Baby Boomers who participated in the Women’s Liberation Movement of the 1960s and 1970s.

La tercera ola del feminismo es una filosofia que se desarrolló a partir de 1990. Como todo feminismo, la tercera ola también se funda sobre la emancipación económica, política, social y personal de la mujer. Sin embargo esta forma más reciente de feminismo dirije su atención más hacia el poder individual de la mujer y menos hacia el activismo colectivo. Synthesize an Argument
Once you have educated yourself on the issue and are familiar with the pertinent
facts, you can begin to synthesize an argument. An argument consists of facts
coupled with rhetoric. When formulating an argument, it is best to group all of
the important facts and statistics together; then incorporate them into major
talking points. This makes your argument easy to follow and understand while
providing some of the numbers necessary to make your argument viable. Also,
clear and concise arguments are the easiest to grasp. When recruiting members it
is best to have an argument that others can remember and articulate. A persuasive
argument is essential to convincing others that there is a need for change.
• In almost every presidential election since 1976, over 20 million young people aged
18-30 turned out to vote on Election Day.1
• As of November of 2000, almost a quarter of the voting age population was aged 18-
30 and 64% of this group was registered to vote. In that same year, approximately
18 million young people voted, meaning 1 out of 6 voters was aged 18-30. 2
• Over 20.9 million Americans under the age of 30 voted in 2004, an increase of 4.6
million over 2000. The turnout rate among these voters rose from about 42.3% to
51.6%, according to final national exit polls and an early tally of votes cast. Youth
voter turnout was especially high in the contested battleground states.3
• According to the Harvard Institute of Politics, 41% of young people are unaffi liated
voters, meaning they may vote for any party.4
• In 2000, voters under 30 were evenly split between Bush and Gore, with 48%

As powerful as these statistics are, they do not form a developed argument. If you
synthesize the facts above and organize them into talking points, they become
powerful and effective. Begin the primary argument by stating your issue and the
stance you are taking. Then create several supporting arguments with research
references and statistics. Here are the talking points Mobilizing America’s Youth
circulated on the issue of youth civic engagement.
Mobilizing America’s Youth set out to change the way young people are viewed in the
United States. Sick of being labelled an apathetic generation, MAY’s founders were
determined to dismiss the stereotypes about youth participation in the political process.
Here are the statistics MAY compiled to articulate this argument:

There are major misconceptions about the power, presence, and
importance of young people in the political process.
• Young people vote in large numbers - 21 million voted in 2004.
• In nearly every Presidential election since 1976, over 20 million young people
aged 18-30 turned out to vote on Election Day.10

pertinent statistics and weave them together to support your argument. This
provides the base necessary to reach out to your peers.

Minute's silence to remember Veronica
THE 10th anniversary of the cold-blooded killing of journalist Veronica Guerin was marked on Monday by
a minute's silence.
The mother-of-one – played by Cate Blanchett in the film of the same name – was gunned on the outskirts
of Dublin in 1996 after mounting a high-profile war in the Sunday Independent newspaper against drug
barons.
As she sat in her car at a traffic light near Newland's Cross on the Naas Road, she was shot by a pillion
passenger on a motorbike.
A journalist with the Sunday Independent, Ms Guerin was one of the country's leading crime reporters
when she was killed. The criminal investigation was one of the largest in the history of the state and led to
over 150 arrests.
Brian Meehan was convicted of the murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. Paul Ward was also
convicted and sentenced to life in prison in November 1998 but this conviction was later overturned on
appeal.
Drugs baron John Gilligan was extradited from England in February 2000. He was tried and acquitted of
her murder but convicted of importing cannabis and sentenced to 28 years in prison, which was reduced to
20 years on appeal.
The man named in court as having shot dead Veronica Guerin, Patrick `Dutchy' Holland, reiterated his
denial after being released from a prison sentence for a drugs conviction in April.

Il decimo anniversario dello spietato assassinio della giornalista Veronica Guerin è stato ricordato lunedí scorso con un minuto di silenzio.
La giornalista e madre, che nell’omonimo film è interpretata da Cate Blanchett, fu assassinata nel 1996 nella periferia di Dublino in seguito ad una sua inchiesta-scandalo sui trafficanti di droga, pubblicata sul quotidiano irlandese The Sunday Independent.
