| Translation - English The Hongta Group is a state-owned enterprise which has grown from a small factory with an annual contribution of taxes and net profits of just about 10 million RMB into a modern state-owned conglomerate with an annual contribution of taxes and net profits exceeding 20 billion RMB.
In Yunnan Province, the Hongta Group currently owns three cigarette factories—the Yuxi Cigarette Factory, the Chuxiong Cigarette Factory and the Dali Cigarette Factory. The Group has controlled or participated in shares of five cigarette factories outside Yunnan Province – The Hainan Cigarette Factory, The Shenyang Cigarette Factory, The Yingkou Cigarette Factory, The Changchun Cigarette Factory and The Yanji Cigarette Factory. In addition, the group has entered such fields as energy, transportation, finance and light industry, which involve more than 70 non-tobacco enterprises.
After decades of exponential development, the Hongta Group has entered the age of the Global Economic Integration. Inherent in the Group’s resolve to pursue ultimate consumer satisfaction is the spirit of not resting on laurels and of transcending the Group’s existence as the leader in China’s tobacco industry. Thus the Group’s present mission is to facilitate its development, upgrade its management capacity, reinforce its market leadership and create a harmonious corporate culture.
The branding strategy of the Hongta Group revolves around its top three cigarette brands----Yuxi, Hongtashan and Hongmei: for the Yuxi brand, efforts are to be made to enhance its quality and market competitiveness to create the leadership position of the brand in the high-end cigarette market; for the Hongtashan brand, efforts are to be focused upon expanding its market share and establishing its dominant role in the Group’s branding strategy; for the Hongmei brand, efforts are to be undertaken to reinforce its market position. Under the guidance of the branding strategy, appropriate pricing tactics for high, medium and low-grade cigarette brands have been executed. As a result, needs from various consumer groups have been adequately met and each of the brands demonstrates unique brand personality and distinctive cultural connotations.
Each and every product of any brand in the Group is an exquisite article created through originality and arduous work by employees in the Group. Each brand is an embodiment of courage and anticipations of the Hongta employees. The employees’ unremitting endeavors have helped the Hongta Group embark upon its journey to establish a world-class brand.
The Hongta Group’s unwavering corporate creed is to create value through scientific advances and to contribute to the society with the value created. During the period from 1993 to 2006 alone, the Hongta Group had contributed well over 950 million RMB to charities and other public sectors, such as education, disaster-relief, sports and economic development programs.
| | English to Chinese: Genetics Intro. | Source text - English A chromosome is an extremely long, thin, highly folded molecule, sections of which (genes) carry information that controls the growth and development of the organism. Genes occupy a particular position on a chromosome throughout a species population, determining (often in combination with other genes) a particular phenotypic character (e.g. eye color). Chromosomes are usually found in homologous pairs (23 pairs in humans), with one of each pair derived from each parent. In contrast to normal cell division (mitosis), a process called meiosis (reduction division) takes place in the germ cells (mammals = ovaries and testes) to produce gametes (mammals = eggs and sperm) containing half the normal number of chromosomes. Two gametes fuse (fertilization) to produce a cell with the normal number of chromosomes. During meiosis a process of recombination takes place, mixing genetic material across these paired chromosomes, which ensures the gene combinations in the chromosomes in any single gamete are different from any other and different from the combinations the father and mother possess.
Different sequences of genetic material occupying the same gene locus are called alleles. If the two alleles are identical on the homologous chromosomes, the cell, organism etc. is homozygous at that locus. Homozygous mutations (the same mutation occurs on both chromosomes of the pair) are normally expressed phenotypically. When the two alleles at a locus are different, the cell/organism is heterozygous for the character they determine. So where alleles A and a occupy the A-locus three possible genotypes exist, two homozygous ones (A-A and a-a) and one heterozygous (A-a). If the character A is expressed equally whether the organism is A-A or A-a, it is completely dominant. If the character represented by a is only expressed when the organism is a-a, it is completely recessive. Co-dominance occurs when homozygotes differ from each other and the heterozygote, and effects are detected in the phenotype (e.g. the A-locus produces either: a red flower = A-A, a white flower = a-a, or a pink flower = A-a).

Hi, my name is Huagang Yang, you may call me Peter. I am so pleased to meet you here at Proz.
I have been a full-time CN-EN & EN-CN translator in both U.S. and China for nearly two decades. After all these years in the translation field, in my views, translation is more than conversion of one language into another, it is basically about the art of understanding your target audiences from their perspective and of communicating the right messages. Thus a lot of cultural sensitivities are involved here.
Apart from a long history of being a professional translator in China, I received my M.A. in Public Communication Studies from Syracuse University and my M.S. in Statistics from Rutgers University. I have worked in law and international trade in U.S. for two years after graduation.
I am now a full-time freelance cross-cultural communication consultant for clients from both China and abroad. I am proficient in translating and proofreading materials in such fields as marketing research, media, public polilcy, law & contracts, telecommunication, statistics, software localization and tourism.
