The spoken word as opposed to the written one for the film industry

In this session, I will focus on writing the spoken word as opposed to the written one, taking into account the constraint imposed by length. I will also talk about the different types of dubbings we encounter when adapting corporate films. How do we deal with speakers in vision, do we go for phrase synch or lip-synch? I will also talk about the work that translators have to do if they wish to start using their own voice and maybe ask some of the participants to read aloud in front of the audience to give them a feel for the experience, and comment on what they are producing.

Bio: I started my professional life at the BBC and then went on to work as a journalist/correspondent for SRC/CBC. I have also indulged in acting but most of my work has been as a translator and voice-over artist. I am a member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (UK), for which I have hosted many successful workshops for translators wanting to experience recording their voice, I have also given lectures to the Chartered Institute of Linguists.
