Se Orazio avesse la possibilità di ammirare Lugano, sicuramente dalle sue labbra sentiremmo le sue famose parole ille terrarum mihi semper praeter omnis angulus ridet (= questo angolo di mondo mi piace più di qualsiasi altro). Piccoli numeri e modeste dimensioni non impediscono a Lugano di gioire di notorietà internazionale, e si trasformano – al contrario – nella sua forza e bellezza.
Collocata tra dolci e digradanti colline, in una baia sul lago Ceresio spesso baciata dal sole, Lugano gode di una posizione strategica ideale, che permette di vivere la realtà non di una, bensì molteplici metropoli, senza subirne al contempo i disagi. Alle porte di due culture, Lugano ha saputo afferrare il meglio degli spiriti che la circondano: qualità tipicamente elvetica e stile mediterraneo si fondono difatti in un una città che di atouts ne ha a bizzeffe. Tale ricchezza si riflette in molteplici fattori che fanno della città non solo luogo ideale in cui vivere, ma altresì destinazione d’eccellenza per il turista.
Minuta. È vero. Ma alla medesima non solo non manca nulla, piuttosto ha da offrire più di quello che, da un piccolo Davide, ci si aspetterebbe. Un aeroporto che collega con scali internazionali, una rinomata università – con ben quattro facoltà distinte –, una piazza affari che é il terzo polo finanziario svizzero, una serie di musei esclusivi, un cuore cittadino all’interno di una cornice verdeggiante, una via dello shopping che é una Regent Street in miniatura…la lista potrebbe proseguire, ma più delle parole contano i fatti. Ed é per questo che vi invitiamo a sfogliare questo numero di XXXX Magazine, per apprezzare alcune delle meraviglie di questa piccola città – perla rara – e per scoprire perché e come il concetto di vivibilità e grandi opportunità si fondono tra i suoi confini, offrendo un qualità della vita che non ha nulla da invidiare all’esperienza urbana di altre città.

If Horace had the chance to admire Lugano, we would certainly hear him say his famous words: Ille terrarum mihi semper praeter omnis angulus ridet (this little corner of the world always pleases me the most). Lugano’s small numbers and dainty size have not been an obstacle to its international fame, and are, in fact, the very essence of its strongpoints and charm.
Lugano is set among gently sloping hills, in a bay on the shores of the often sun-kissed Lake Ceresio. Its strategic position is ideal: its citizens can enjoy the life not of just one but of several major cities, without having the inconvenience of big city life. On the doorstep of two cultures, Lugano has been able to capture the best of the essences that surround it: typical Swiss quality and Mediterranean style mingle in a city that comes up trumps, time and time again. This wealth is reflected in many different factors that make the city not only an ideal place to live in, but also a top destination for tourists.
Lugano is tiny. Agreed. But not only does it lack nothing, it also has much more to offer than you would expect from a titchy David: an airport connected to the major international airports, a famous university – with as many as four distinct Faculties – a financial market that is the third largest in Switzerland, a series of unique museums, the throbbing heart of a city in the luxuriant green body of its outskirts, a shopping street that is a miniature Regent Street… we could go on, but facts speak louder than words, which is why we invite you to browse through this issue of XXXXX Magazine. I was Italian Edition Editor of the magazine for four years; when it folded I went freelance.
I now specialise in Travel and Tourism (including Art, Archaeology, Architecture and History), Literature (especially children's), Cookery and Cuisine.
All these fields reflect my personal interests.
