Resident Orientation Handbook
Overview of In-Prison DWI Recovery Program
Welcome to East Texas Treatment Facility, In-Prison DWI Recovery Program. The following is a brief overview of the parts of the program in which everyone will be involved. Hopefully this will answer some questions you may have, and give you some idea of what will be expected of you while you are here.
RECEPTION AND PROCESSING
All offenders will be received at designated facilities. Offenders will be strip-searched upon arrival at the facility of assignment. A receipt will be made out for the offender’s money and property.
A. PERSONAL PROPERTY
Each offender may keep only the following items of property upon his arrival at the facility:
1. Money – Only US currency or coinage, money orders, cashier’s checks, or checks from Law Enforcement Agencies will be accepted. No personal checks will be accepted. All such monies will be deposited in the offender’s trust fund account.
2. Legal materials and books.
3. One (1) Bible or other religious guide book of equivalent nature.
4. Substance Abuse literature.
5. One (1) watch.
6. One (1) wedding ring.
7. One (1) pair of shower shoes.
8. Personal pictures without hardbacks. No photo albums.
9. Paper containing personal addresses and telephone numbers. No personal letters or cards accepted.
10. Prescription eye-glasses. No non-prescription sunglasses.
B. PERSONAL HYGIENE
Each offender will be given a shave and haircut after completion of the property inventory. He will also be issued clothes, sheets, toothpowder, and toothbrush.
C. SCREENING
Each offender will then be:
1. Photographed,
2. Fingerprinted,
3. Examined for any identifying scars, marks, or tattoos, and
4. Asked some questions about himself.
D. PHYSICAL EXAMINATION
Urgent medical care will be given, if needed, upon arrival. Otherwise, offenders will later be given a physical examination by medical staff. The medical staff will ask each offender about his medical history. The medical staff will use the results of the medical examination to decide the special medical needs of the offender.
E. MENTAL HEALTH SCREENING
Each offender may be given a brief mental status examination. Offenders who need more psychological testing will be referred for further testing.
F. INITIAL ORIENTATION
An orientation will be provided to all newly received offenders. The orientation will be provided in Spanish to those offenders so requesting. The orientation is about the facilities:
1. Policies,
2. Programs,
3. Educational services,
4. Rules,
5. Substance abuse treatment programs,
6. Disciplinary procedures, and
7. Other activities and programs as required.

RECEPCIÓN Y PROCESO
Todos ofensores serán recibidos en facilidades designadas. Ofensores serán desvestidos y registrados sobre la llegada en la facilidad apropiada. Un recibo se completará por cada dinero y propiedad del ofensor.
A. PROPIEDAD PERSONAL
Cada ofensor han permiso de traer los siguiente artículos.
1. El dinero - Sólo moneda de EEUU , Cualquier dinero en efectivo, giros postales, cheques de caja, o cheques de agencias de coacción de ley serán aceptados para depósito en la Cuenta de Fondo de Confianza de Ofensores. Ningunos cheques personales serán aceptados.
2. Material legal y literatura.
3. Una Biblia o un texto religioso de natura igual.
4. Literatura del Abuso de Sustancia
5. Un (1) reloj
6. Un (1) anillo de boda
7. Zapatos de Baño –un (1) par
8. Fotografías personal sin tapas duras, ni álbum de fotos.
9. Un papel que contiene las direcciones y números de teléfono personales. Ningunas cartas ni las tarjetas personales son aceptadas.
10. Monóculos médicamente prescritos. Monóculos de sol sin prescripción del doctor no son permitidos.
B. HIGIENE PERSONAL
Cada ofensor será dado un afeito y un corte de pelo después de conclusión del inventario de la propiedad. También será dado ropa, las sábanas, polvo dental, y un cepillo de dientes.
C. INVESTIGACIÓN DE PERSON
Cada ofensor entonces será
1. Fotografiado
2. Tomado huellas digitales.
3. Examinado por cualquier cicatriz, marcas, o tatuajes identificables, y
4. Entrevistado para obtener información básica.
D. Examino Físico
El cuidado médico urgente será dado, si necesitado, sobre la llegada. De otro modo, ofensores serán dados un examen físico por el personal médico. El personal médico le preguntará a cada ofensor sobre su historia médica. El personal médico usará los resultados del examen para determinar las necesidades especiales, si hay alguna, del ofensor.
E. Investigación del Salud Mental
Cada ofensor tendrá una breve evaluación psicológica inicial. Si durante éste proceso se determina que puede haber necesidades especiales, el ofensor será enviado a una evaluación adicional.
F. El orientación inicial
Una orientación es proporcionada a todos ofensores nuevos. La orientación se proporciona en español a aquellos ofensores que lo requieren. La orientación cubrirá lo siguiente:
1. Políticas,
2. Programas,
3. Servicios Educativos,
4. Reglas,
5. Programas del la Abuso del Sustancia,
6. Procedimiento Disciplinario, y
7. Otras actividades y programas como son necesario.

Hello,
My name is Ms. Bachus. I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. Since a child I have always been interested in traveling. In the early 70's I moved to England where I spent almost 5 years working in a publication facility. It was there where I developed a passion for languages. I assisted in printing diverse publications in many different languages. From there I and my husband traveled setting up different publication and translation offices in France, Italy, Spain, Greece, and South America. I returned to the United States in 1993 where I continued my education. I have degrees in Computer Science and a Bachelor Degree in Spanish as the University did not offer a "Foriegn Language" choice. I also took 2 years of French. I have also picked up some Greek a long the way. Currently I am working for a therapeutic correctional facility in counseling. I will begin a counseling/social science/criminolgy degree.
Over these years I have worked with children and adults in many different cultures.
Having a wide variety education enables me to understand the terminology in very stregic fields which I believe would be an asset to many employers. |
