Corteo, which means "cortege" in Italian, is a joyous procession, a festive parade imagined by a clown. The clown pictures his own funeral taking place in a carnival atmosphere, watched over by quietly caring angels. Sean McDowell:
My name is Sean McDowell, and I'm the designer for the Romaleos, which is Nike's first weightlifting shoe.
When we first started the project, it's, uh, very interesting, there -- there's been kind of an 80-year history in weightlifting where they've been building shoes with wood in the heel.
Uh, the reason for that is you don't want any
compression in the heel.
You get, in some cases, 1,000 pounds over your head — if you have a nice soft, cushy midsole, that's great for going out and
running for a 5k or 10k.
It's the exact opposite of what you need in weightlifting.
The athletes like the wood, it's okay.
It's a little heavy.
It's inconsistent because it comes from different pieces of the tree.
And it's very flat, and your heel is round.
So it might have worked 80 years ago when they weren't lifting as much weight as they are today, but the heel is becoming unstable because you've got a round heel and flat platform.
So that became one of the first things -- first problems for us to solve, and we invented the Nike Power Bridge.
So it's a very, uh, stable injection Pebacks.
Pebacks is also a great plastic for us.
It works in extreme heat, extreme cold, and it
stays consistent, so it can take this maximum load.
We've carved out as much weight as we can through the bottom, and it's also honeycombed through the inside.
As you see from the outsole, it's extremely flat.
But you've got a lot of grooves in the forefoot to keep it flexible.
When the athlete splits into a snatch position, they have almost 500 pounds on that back foot, on that back toe, so you need to find the right balance of toe spring in there.
If it's too flexible, uh, you could start to wobble and fall out of place.
If it's too stiff, you can't get up onto your toes.
We've had some record lifts set in this shoe.
We've had athletes win gold medals in the Asian Games and World Championships in this shoe.
Comfort's way up, this new Nike Power Bridge gives you great contour, great support, great stability, and we've been receiving great feedback on it. | Translation - Korean

Sean McDowell입니다. Nike의 첫 역도화인 Romaleos의 디자인을 담당했죠.
처음 프로젝트를 시작했을 때, 음, 흥미로왔던 게 역도 종목이 있고서 80년 동안 역도화 뒤축을 나무로 제작해 왔었다는 겁니다.
가장 큰 이유는 뒤축이 압축되는 걸 전혀 원하지 않았기 때문이죠.
머리 위로 심지어는 450 킬로그램까지 들어 올려야 하는데 — 쿠션이 부드러운 중창은 5 킬로미터, 10 킬로미터 달리기 용으로는 더없이 좋겠죠.
역도에선 그 정반대예요.
선수들은 나무 뒤축을 좋아합니다.
다소 무겁고, 재질이 다른 나무를 쓰는 관계로 무게나 질감이 일관되지는 않아요.
평평하죠. 반면 뒷꿈치는 동그랗고요.
지금처럼 많은 무게를 들어올릴 필요가 없었던 80년 이전 시절에는 적합했을지 몰라도, 오늘날엔 그다지 안정적이지가 못합니다.
발 뒷꿈치는 동그란데 바닥이 평평하니까요.
바로 그 점이 우리가 풀어야 할 첫번째 숙제였죠.
그래서 Nike Power Bridge를 개발했어요.
이건 안정성이 높은, 인젝션 방식의 Pebacks입니다.
Pebacks은 성능이 우수한 플라스틱이에요.
초고온, 극저온 양쪽 모두에 강하고 형태의 변화가 전혀 없어서 최고의 하중을 견뎌내죠.
아래쪽으로 가능한 한 무게를 줄여 냈어요, 그 안쪽은 벌집 구조로 되어 있고요.
여기 겉창에서 보시듯이, 완전한 평면입니다.
발 앞쪽은 유연성을 유지하기 위해 홈을 많이 추가했습니다.
역도 선수들이 두 다리를 벌려서 스내치 포지션을 취하게 되면, 뒷발에 약 200 킬로그램의 하중이 전가됩니다. 뒷발가락으로요. 발가락의 탄력을 이용해서 밸런스를 잡는 게 무엇보다 중요하죠.
너무 유연하면 흔들려서 중심을 잃게 될 겁니다.
너무 뻣뻣하면 발가락으로 지탱할 수 없게 되죠.
이 신발은 역도 기록을 몇 차례 갱신했어요.
선수들이 이 신발을 신고 아시안 게임과 세계 선수권 대회에서 금메달을 따 냈습니다.
훨씬 편해요. Nike의 Power Bridge 역도화는 세련되었을뿐 아니라 지지역, 안정성 모든 면에서 탁월하죠. 선수들의 반응이 무척 좋았어요.
