Lawyers Aid Canada is a national not-for-profit service dedicated to promoting access to justice for low- and moderate-income Canadians. It is designed for those in need of legal assistance, but whose income is too high to qualify for government Legal Aid and too low for traditional legal fees.
Our Team
A group of committed lawyers who recognize the current crisis of access to justice in the Canadian legal system, and who devote a portion of their practice to qualified cases of low- and moderate-income clients. They have reduced their regular fees for clients accepted under the Program according to the Lawyers Aid Canada Fee Schedule.
Who Qualifies
Those who do not qualify for government Legal Aid programs, whose gross annual family income is less than $59,000, and who have difficulties paying traditional legal fees. Income includes employment income, self-employed earnings, unemployment insurance, worker’s compensation, pensions, social assistance, commissions, and rental income. How it Works
Lawyers Aid Canada has two arms designed to help clients connect with our participating lawyers:
- a free online Directory at www.lawyersaid.ca.
- a telephone Hotline for individuals without computer access at
1-900 – xxx xxxx (please note: there is a $2 charge per call to defray Hotline costs)
To find a lawyer online, visitors browse the Online Directory. After entering location and type of law required, the Directory provides a short list of lawyers and their practice details (including languages spoken, special services, etc.). The visitor decides which best suits his/her particular case, and contacts the lawyer. If the lawyer is available, the client provides eligibility information and the case can proceed. Please note that since each lawyer can only accommodate a limited number of Lawyers Aid Canada clients, more than one participating lawyer may need to be contacted in order to obtain an appointment.
Individuals without computer access can telephone 1-900-xxx-xxxx and a Call Centre attendant
will search the Directory and provide a list of participating lawyers on the client’s behalf for a minimal fee. Please note that Call Centre attendants have no legal training, and cannot provide legal advice.
Lawyers Aid Canada Fee Schedule
All Lawyers Aid Canada cases are billed according to the Lawyers Aid Canada Fee Schedule. Fees are calculated according to a sliding scale, taking into account annual income, number of dependants, type of law, and province. The sliding scale is posted at the website and reviewed by the Lawyers Aid Canada team periodically. Hourly fees range from $90 to $150.

Breast cancer mortality rate in the United States in 2004 was 22.0 per 100,0000 people, 4 times higher mortality rate compare to 5.4 in Korea.
American Cancer Society estimates that 40,000 US women are dying from breast cancer every year, and a breast cancer patient occurs in 8 people (about 12% of ratio).
The incidence risk of breast cancer increases as people grow older. Several risk factors, such as family history, obesity, benign breast disease, early menarche, late menopause, not having children or having children at old age, are reasoned for breast cancer. However, there is no clearly defined risk factor that has possible intervention in prevention perspective.
Therefore managing breast through screening is very important. It is generally known that screening mammography can decreases the breast cancer mortality rate about 20-30%. |
