English to Spanish: The Linguist
Source text - English Are You a Linguist?
As I see it, everyone is a potential linguist. By that, I mean that everyone can be fluent in another language. You do not have to be an intellectual or an academic. After all, a linguist is defined by the Concise Oxford Dictionary in very simple terms:
Linguist: n. Person skilled in foreign languages.
Even speaking one foreign language qualifies a person as a linguist.
To become a linguist is a matter of choice, and requires a certain state of mind. A linguist enjoys foreign languages and appreciates the different ways that ideas are organized and
expressed in different cultures. A linguist is at ease with people of another language and confident when learning new languages.
The first step towards becoming a linguist, towards learning a second language, is to realize that success depends not on the teacher but on the learner. Each learner must discover the language gradually in his or her own way. The teacher can only stimulate and inspire. Enrolling in a language school or taking a course will not ensure fluency. If the learner does not accept
this simple fact, time and money spent on language programs will be wasted. Language schools and language learning systems may teach, but only the learner can learn.
Spanish to English: ALEJANDRA REPETTO ESCARDÓ
. Egresada de la "Escuela Superior de Publicidad"de la Asociación Argentina de Profesionales Publicitarios. Expone desde 1993 en instituciones privadas y oficiales. Participa en el Salón Nacional de la Mujer, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Plata; Fundación Amuchastegui Luque, Córdoba, Distinción de Honor, Dibujo, 1999. Salón Fotográfico American Express, Centro Cultural Recoleta, 2001. Salón Primavera de Pintura, Galería Loft Espacio Alfa y Artística Dibu, 1er Premio; Centro Cultural Borges, Expotrastienda II; Galería Praxis de Buenos Aires, 2002.
Translation - English Alejandra Repetto Escardó was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on September 11th, 1960.
Her works arise from watching the heavens in Turner and Friederick's paintings.
It is during that process of studying negative spaces, that the subject of emptiness as a conceptual unit comes up. She moves onto the study of the eastern concept of emptiness as a totalizing and energizing element, the opposite point of view to the western concept where emptiness means "nothingness". She comes into contact with the works of Zao Wou Ki, whom she adopts as her master. She complements her eastern studies with the study of archaic Chinese calligraphy with Chiu Tai Li, a plastic artist living in Buenos Aires.
The artist bears the idea of an abstract painting as a reaction to "horror vacui", especially at a time when we are protagonists of a culture overflowed with visual elements. To her, art must lead to contemplation and reflection.
National Professor of Painting, graduated from the "Prilidiano Pueyrredón" National School of Fine Arts, she is currently studying for a Master’s Degree in Visual Arts at the IUNA (National University Institute of Art). Graduated from “Escuela Superior de Publicidad” at Asociación Argentina de Profesionales Publicitarios. Since 1993, she has been exhibiting her paintings both at private and public institutions: Salón Nacional de la Mujer, National Museum of Fine Arts (La Plata); Amuchastegui Luque Foundation, Córdoba, Merit Award, Drawing, 1999. Primavera de Pintura Salon, Loft Espacio Alfa Gallery and Artística Dibu, 1st Prize; Borges Cultural Center, Expotrastienda II, Praxis Gallery in Buenos Aires, 2002.
