1. What is a "credential"?

Various associations, schools and other bodies around the world offer to translators what ProZ.com generally refers to as "credentials". These may include "certifications", "degrees" or other forms of qualification.

2. How are credentials used at ProZ.com?

It is possible for members to report having earned such credentials via their profile pages. Correspondingly, job posters are able to restrict job posting to those members who have reported credentials. (They may not restrict job postings to those with verified credentials.) Also, directory searches can be limited to those with reported or verified credentials.

Note that there is no uniform standard for translator credentials. Furthermore, credentials are not available in many language pairs, and it may be difficult for those living in certain areas to obtain opportunities to earn credentials. It is recommended that the option to restrict job postings or directory searches by reported credentials be used selectively, and only for major language pairs.

3. How do I get a credential verified?

ProZ.com verifies language-related credentials reported by ProZ.com members. At this time the following credentials can be verified:
  • Accreditations issued by authorities such as: AAIT, AAIC, CTA, etc.
  • Language-related Academic Credentials / Degrees issued by accredited educational institutions
First, report your credentials in your profile.

Second, send copies of your credential (including an English translation, if necessary) to ProZ.com, by one of the following means:

Postal mail:
calle 45 No 883, 3ro B
(1900) La Plata
Buenos Aires
Argentina

Fax: +54-221-4251266

Attach the images to a Support Ticket.

If you are sending the copies through postal mail or fax, please submit a support request that your credential be verified.

You may also send an attachment of your credential(s) through our on line support system, which is the fastest way to get your credential(s) verified. Please submit a support request with your attachment now.

4. How do I report my credentials?

To report a credential, first go to your profile. In the right frame, under a yellow star you'll see:

Credentials
Report accreditations

Click there. You'll be directed to the Credentials Settings page. There, select the lenguage pair, an Authority from the list or, if your Authority is not listed, select 'other' and enter name and location below.

Note: Please make sure that you report both language pairs (when applicable).

After you have done this with all your credentials, they will appear in your profile, on the Credentials section.

5. Can I verify my memberships in organizations?

As they are in general temporary, and subject to change, ProZ.com is unable to verify memberships in organizations.
