I noticed that most agencies (US agencies, actually) require Canadian French for their translations into French. What's wrong with us, French translators? Anything to do with money issues?

I have been turned down when quoting on projects from France because even if we both speak French, there are a lot of different expressions, different words that are accepted or not and even slight grammar differences.
For exemple, most if not all our movies are now translated in Quebec and not in France and you would probably have a hard time enjoying the same movie if you didn't get most of the jokes, expressions and cultural references.
Since you are talking about US agencies, it's probably that they do target the Canadian market and want to use Canadian translators to get a better adapted translated.
Same thing goes for UK and US English, Mexico and Spain Spanish.

I don't think they'll send a Canadian French text to France, Belgium or whatever.

No problem with us. If they require Canadian translators, it's probably because Canadian French is very different from French from France.
If their translations are for the Canadian market, it is quite normal they choose Canadian translators.
(same thing for brazilian (Brazil/Portugal), spanish (Spain, South America), etc...
