Cruise day Dec 25, 2006

Hi, Csaba,

I certainly do not want to interfere with your superb efforts to organize this conference. Terrific job!

This is merely a question, for all to pitch in, actually.

How about the cruise on Sunday night, which is the 1st day? I suppose some, and possibly quite a few people will be looking into departure Monday night. Also, from the previous experience we know that some people sign in for 1 day only.

Also, those who want could use a chance to check out Monday morning and save 1 night on the hotel fare. Everything is so close in Europe. I suppose some participants could get back home late at night on the same day. Overall, I believe this would give more people a chance not to miss a party. Hopefully we won't get too drunk not to be able to continue with business on the next day

What a chance to see Budapest and write-off the ticket I'm already thinking of a Hungarian spa vacation before and at least 2 full days in Vienna after.

Irene

I would supportm the option of a Gala Dinner (Danube Ride) on the first Conference Night Dec 27, 2006

For the reasons mentioned above.
AFAIR the Gala Dinner took always place at the first Conference night

children? Jan 10, 2007

Hi,
My children have their May holiday the last week of April and first week of May so we're considering turning this into a holiday for all 4 of us. Will children be welcome at either of the evening events during the conference? I think they would love a boat cruise but if it's 'discouraged', no problem.
Also, if anyone has links on fun things to do with kids in and around Budapest, I would love to see them!
Interesting: I just found out my great-grandparents were from Budapest! I knew they were from Hungary, but didn't know where until recently. So now I'm really going to do my best to go! Thanks for all your efforts thus far Csaba!
Allison

Little ones Jan 10, 2007

The boat cruise and the other evening program is open for all guests (for an additional fee, details later).

The hotel is located just a couple of blocks away from the City Park, with lots of interesting activities for children: zoo, playhouse (for bad weather), funfair, museum of transport (where kids can drive old trams, etc.)
Another area that holds many interesting things for children is Millenáris Park that can be reached by public transport in about 30 minutes.
If the weather is nice, it's also possible to make a short excursion to the Buda hills.

I will try to find links and post them later on.

Cs.

Closures on May day? Jan 12, 2007

Hi Csaba

I would like to know if we should expect many closed doors (museums, in particular) on May 1st, in Budapest or surroundings.
Thanks for your great work on this conference.

Hervé

no worries Jan 12, 2007

Museums are usually closed on Mondays. They are open on all public holidays though, so they will be open on May 1st as well.
They are likely to be closed on May 2nd though, but I will check.

Shopping malls and basically all shops will be closed on May 1st.

Sharing car hire and expenses Jan 21, 2007

I am currently starting to plan my trip to Budapest and would love to see some of the surrounding countryside, so if anyone is interested in hiring a car and sharing expenses, or is planning to visit cities like Vienna and Prague I would be very interested in hearing from you. Thanks

Rent a car for excursions, as described Mar 6, 2007

Hi!

As I am staying pretty long in Budapest, I was considering to make the excursions suggested by Csaba -by the way: Thank you very much for it, Csaba!!-

However doing this alone is not half much fun as doing it with some other people -and it is cheaper too. In Catalunya we say: "The more we are, the more fun we will have" ;o))

So:

Is there anyone willing to rent a car with me to make some excursions (within Hungary, please) and share the expenses? I drink no alcohol at all and meet the requisites to rent a car...

If so, please contact me and I will be very happy!

Thank you and see you!
Helena

Concert on Thursday night Apr 26, 2007

One of my favourite bands will play tonight. If you are already in Budapest, we could go and see them together.

They are called Besh-o-Drom ( http://www.beshodrom.hu/ )

Their music is rooted in Hungarian and Balkan folk music, jazzed up with a generous portion of "world music". The blend is truly invigorating.

Actually, back in January I contacted them for our cruise party, but the band consists of 10 musicians and they use a lot of instruments, so simply they take up too much space.

But luckily enough they play tonight.

This is found on them in English on a Bulgarian site:

Besh o droM
The futuristic wedding band Besh o droM is a 10-piece electroacoustic collective, combining ethnic folk roots, driving beats and wild jazz improvisation to spectacular effect. Their sound exemplifies the vital creative energy that is flourishing throughout the region and fusing east and west in myriad new ways.

The concert starts at 9 pm on A38, which is a boat moored on the Pest side, next to Petőfi híd (bridge).

If you are interested, let's meet up at 8 in Hotel Benczúr. As we will pass through Oktogon, you can also join us there. The second meeting point is at Oktogon, in the tram stop, at 8:25. We will catch a tram at 8:30.

You will need some transport tickets (2 there, 2 back), plus the entrance fee is HUF 1900 (8 euros).

I will also post this information in the hotel itself.

See you tonight!
