Arabic editing? Oct 4, 2004

Greetings.

Re your posted inquiry.

If by "editing" you mean spell-checking of Arabic text, that is a feature inside the Arabic support available in the basic CD for MS Windows 2000 and XP (XP is the better of the two OS).

Re your posted inquiry.

If by "editing" you mean spell-checking of Arabic text, that is a feature inside the Arabic support available in the basic CD for MS Windows 2000 and XP (XP is the better of the two OS).

Hint: When adding Arabic language support to your OS, select [Arabic, Saudi] from the dropdown list, as the other Arabic dialects listed do not have full support.

If you mean, otherwise, that "editing" refers to software for producing reasonably-accurate correlations between expressions first rendered in 'formal literary English' (although that can be mangled by some copywriters, advertising flacks, and engineers) and their rendition and conversion into their equivalent and accurate terms in Modern Standard Arabic (fuSHa), you may be out of luck, although other participants in the Arabic forum may have some suggestions of products they have found and used.

There are several products that serve as translation memories and/or use Natural Language Programing (NLP). The bilingual and bidirectional TranSphere (r) product by AppTek comes to mind.

In setting up and using TranSphere, the user must define and populate the dictionaries by subject matter (and that can be a time vampire), but thereafter, bidi manipulation and some editing are possible, according to the user's levels of bilingual fluency.

HTH.

Khair, in sha' Allah.
