I know the essential differences of translation vs. interpretation, of course. What confuses me are the three aspects above.

If desktop publishing is getting the document to look exactly like the original, by way of, well, DTP software, then what is editing? And how does editing differ from proofreading?

I know this seems like something I should know, but since I live in a tiny country, we tend to be jacks and janes of all trades here... maybe I've done a bit of each (I know I do a lot of DTP every day at work!), but just didn't know I was doing it.

Can anyone help me? Thanks a lot

As for DTP, it is a value-added service and should be charged in addition to the translation. Normally translation agencies have DTP specialists who handle the formatting post-translation, but if you are in a position to offer that service I would definitely take it into account in my rates.

Hope this helps
