Welcome to the site, and best of luck in getting your business off the ground.

It\'s a bit difficult to give you concrete pointers since we don\'t know about your background, specialisation, etc. What I can tell you is that there\'s a wealth of information in these forums: just page through the topics in this forum as well as \"Getting established\". Also try the search function: if you start by searching for \"in the UK\", you will find quite a few useful threads to read.... See more

Since in the UK you are usually classed as being self-employed (you register with your local tax office) but I think you require a National Insurance Number and I can\'t remember where you got that. Your local tax office will be able to tell you. A visit may be productive. Only if you plan on earning more than +/- £ 50,000 per year do you have to register for VAT.

I would recommend you also consider joining one (or both) of the UK\'s 2 professional associations:

The Institute of Linguists (www.iol.org.uk)

The Institute of Translation and Interpreting (www.iti.org.uk)
