Hello,

I was wondering how it is that one could become a UN certified translator and whether it will be worth the trouble at the end of the day?

Best,
Noha

Check out the UN's Human resources page also Jul 10, 2007

This page from UN Geneva has information on language services at the UN
http://www.unog.ch/80256EE60057CB67/(httpPages)/6198E1266DB7B16480256EF80049A2F2?OpenDocument

You can link to the UN Human Resources page from the main page at http://www.un.org
I don't have any experience, but there is probably a Proz member at there who would be willingly to share their experience.
Good Luck,
Alp Berker

UN competitive examinations Jul 11, 2007

Dear Noha
The only way to be certified as meeting the UN quality requirements for a translator is taking the UN examinations for translators or interpreters. Once you've pass you can apply to any UN agency or offer your service as freelance. The exam is quite tough (I've taken it twice already) and the examination is held every two or three years. If you are one of the few lucky translators selected, it's a big achievement because all UN agencies have this examination as main requirement for translators or interpreters.

Best regards

Andrea Lorca
