I translated a small file and now the company asks me to send them my \"SS\" since I am working for them for the first time.

What exactly do they mean? Does any of you know the German term for this?

Social Security number? Mar 31, 2003

If the client is in the US, they may want a Social Security number (or, alternatively, a tax ID) in order to account for you as an outside contractor. I believe you can contact the US authorities to get assigned one.

What Spanish clients need are VAT/Tax ID numbers Mar 31, 2003

Maybe you should try to clear this up with them.

Summa Summarum Apr 1, 2003

(Latin for \'alles in allem\')

is a delivery from the WGD (Wild Guess Department), i.e. I have no proof other than \"Duden: Wörterbuche der Abkürzungen\" and a certain logic (see below).

This should then mean:

All that we should know about you a translation supplier:

Name, address, phone, fax etc

CV

Language pairs, specialties etc

SS= Seguridad Social Apr 1, 2003

In Spain SS normally stands for Seguridad Social which means Social Security... so I guess they want some kind of number...

ID or passport number Apr 2, 2003

Hi,

In Spain, it seems that the ID/Social Security number must be quoted on invoices. I used my passport number, as we don\'t have ID in the UK. They accepted that, and I was paid o.k.

There has been discussion on this topic in another thread, too.

Best wishes

Annira
