Hello all!
I need a piece of advice.

A (direct) client just asked me a 'TRanslation record' for a translation I did in November.
They sent me an example, here it is:

I hereby confirm that the translation(s) from EN to FR with reference
XXX (name of the file)
represents an accurate translation of the original text provided.

They say their client won't pay them without this record (they have paid me ages ago).

I don't see any reason not to sign this, but I would like to incorporate some reservations. While I'm pretty sure the translation is accurate, translation is a very personal matter and I wouldn't want them to claim say a misplaced comma (not saying this is the case, but just to be on the safe side).

What would you do, and how would you word possible reservations?

I'll add that when I began working with this client, I offered 2 different rates: one just for translation (which they chose - of course) and the other for translation + proofreading.

Thank you in advance!

Marie-Christine

Check parallel thread Apr 2, 2008

Hi Marie-Christine,
Check the parallel thread, http://www.proz.com/forum/business_issues/101092-client_requires_certificate_of_correctness.html, where you can find some useful advice. Perhaps it is even the same client.
Best wishes,
Attila

My experience Apr 2, 2008

Dear Marie-Christine,
I have several clients requesting the same type of declaration for each job. In one case, they also specify that they are ultimately responsible for the quality in front of their client.
Personally, I did not see any reason against this and I have provided them with this declaration. So far, no problems.
HTH

Thank you both Apr 2, 2008

I did not find that thread, Attila, otherwise I wouln't have opened this one at all.
I'll add 'to the best of my abilities' to the client's wording, I think that should do it.

Thank you again and best wishes to you both.

Add this, or something to this effect, to the inscription they require
