Help: Client is late paying and this seems ridiculous!

Thanks for your comments.
Thus far, they have paid me by check on a monthly basis. While it is not the most common thing here compared with a bank transfer, I'm confused about why you link sending a check to going bankrupt...?

There is no link between paying by cheque and bankruptcy.

In the EU, there is provision in most states to charge a fee plus interest on late payments. When you accept a job from a client, you should agree a payment period - usually 30 days - and indicate that if payment is late, a late payment fee will be applied and interest will be charged. You should also inform them of late payment charges and interest rates in your region. Check your local late payment legislation as it varies from country to country
If that fails, there are other options to persuade clients to pay on time, but they could cost you the client.
