Dear Colleagues,

I am in the process of building a new website, which will consist of two sections: A section for providing language services for clients and the other section to contain a large number of translator resources collected from the internet and some innovative and newly created resources. Therefore, I will need a lot of disk space and bandwidth, and Proz.com web hosting offer, associated with Platinum Membership, will not work for me.

The problem is that I cannot decide which web hosting company to choose. They are too many, and this is the cause of problem. I cannot find someone or some reference website, which honestly tell me that X company is good and Y company is bad. When I choose a company and read a lot of encouraging reviews about it and rating it as # 1, I find other bad and discouraging reviews about the same company on other websites. It appears that there are a lot of paid and biased reviews published on many websites. This is going to make me crazy. I cannot risk my business. In the meantime, my budget is limited. I will be able to pay for shared hosting, not dedicated one. I will need, say, 10 GB disk space and 100 GB bandwidth.

I will highly appreciate if you give me some tips on this issue and tell me about any reference 'honest’ websites which can help me decide which company will be right for me.

Also, I take the advantage of posting this topic to let you know that I am thinking now of hosting my website with VodaHost (www.vodahost.com). Is there any colleague here who have tried VodaHost hosting service?

Thank you for taking the time to read this posting and I really appreciate your advice!

Best regards,
Waleed

Domainhost Feb 24, 2006

I have been with Domainhost for 3 years now. I am absolutely thrilled with the level of service. Very fast turnaround on e-mail support requests (less than 24 hours) and great phone support. The cost is USD 179 per year and I have considered moving my site to the free hosting on Proz to save money, but I figure if it isn't broke, why fix it? And I have heard so many horror stories about free hosting in general...In short that you get what you pay for...

I depend on hosting not only for my site but for e-mail as well, so reliability is important.

HTH

Very limited storage and bandwidth! Feb 24, 2006

Thanks Sara for your comment, but domainhost.com offers very limited storage and bandwidth (500 MB disk space and 20 GB data transfer for it's highest hosting plan). This will not work for me, as I will need much more disk space and bandwidth- I will need Gigs not MBs.

Thank anyway!

Waleed

Now I really sound like I'm pitching... Feb 24, 2006

They do offer add-on services. I am pretty sure they can give you as much as you want (for a price of course).

It may be worth sending them an e-mail for a quote.

Good luck with your project!

Sara

I use DiscountASP in one of my enterprises Feb 24, 2006

I have chosen it mainly for ASP.NET 2.0 support, but they are good.

See http://www.discountasp.net/.

And http://www.componentgo.com to see it running.

Bluehost Feb 24, 2006

I am with them for quite some time now and they seem to have what you need. Not very expensive either.
