Should we send electronic copies of translations?

I've just done my first translation and I've offered my client to attach a copy of the translation to an e-mail. I'm not sure I've done the right thing. Can anyone tell me whether I have.
Thank you.

Yes, you did the right thing, don't worry Mar 3, 2006

Unless specified otherwise, most translations are forwarded thru email or thru ftp (file transfer protocol --> upload/download to servers) (etc).
But do consider zipping the translations you forward, especially if you're dealing with several docs and/or heavy files..

Hard copies are usually only sent when they had to be certified.

I can only echo Evert. I remember that I had to send hard copies only a few times throughout my translation career (almost 15 years.) Every other time has been by e-mail, usually as an attachment.

get the clients to confirm receipt Mar 3, 2006

E-mailing your translations is definitely okay as Evert and Monika said. But I always ask the recipient to confirm receipt. That way they can't say later they didn't receive it.

Happy translating!

please ask for confirmation Mar 4, 2006

You must be having a work order from the party. Only ask for the confirmation of the receipt of the electronic copy.

Thank you Mar 19, 2006

Thank you to all of you for your replies, they really helped.
I forgot to ask if I should send a read-only copy or if I should make it password protected before sending it.
Thank you again.
