Hello forum members,

Do any of you have a better solution than the one I have currently been using for checking spelling in Tag Editor. The last few days I have been working on a rather large translation in Tag Editor (approx. 16 000 words and 6 000 tags). When I started the (Word plug-in) spelling checker, it took absolutely AGES to check through the document (several hours, actually) and all the time I had to be there to confirm the spellers actions.

I'm running Trados on a one-year old PC with an AMD 1.8 GHz processor and 512 Mb RAM.

The obvious choice is to copy the original file and clean it in TW, then open the sgm file in Word. Thats a lot faster, but you have to transfer all your corrections back to Tag Editor afterwards and since Trados boast that they have a spelling checker plug-in that works, I wonder if I am doing something wrong!

Regards, (sleepless) Nigel Skipper

Have you tried to select the internal spell checker in TagEditor?

Best regards, Ralf

Export it Nov 7, 2003

When a file is too large for Tag Editor checker, I use to export the translation ("Save target as..." or so) and spellcheck on MS-Word.
Yes, it is not very elegant, but is much faster.

Contradiction Nov 8, 2003

Hi Nigel,
Your info seems to be somewhat contradictive:
When I started the (Word plug-in) spelling checker, ...

vs.

Have you tried to select the internal spell checker in TagEditor?

...which you affirmed. I didn't mean the Word plugin, but the Wintertree plugin.

Hi Ralf,

Now I'm confused. When you start TagEditor, it opens a little window and comes with all sorts of advice notes. On one occasion, I got an advice note which said that the internal spelling checker would use MS Word's spelling checker and dictionary, if I had Word 2000 or later, so I assumed that this was the standard spelling checker in Tag Editor.
Apparently not?

TagEditor has two spell-checking options Nov 8, 2003

Hi again,
Have a look at the online TagEditor help (Navigating the TagEditor Interface - Tools Menu - Check Spelling) - the alternatives are explained there.

Many thanks, Ralf Nov 8, 2003

O.K, now I've found it, yet to see if it makes any difference . . .

Thanks again!
