Which is the best CAT-tool for software and web site localization?

I now own SDL Trados 2007 Freelance with SDL Trados Studio 2009 SP2 and SDL Passolo 2009 (I think it's Passolo Essential), and also Alchemy Publisher 3.0.

Which is the best CAT-tool for software and web site localization?

I now own SDL Trados 2007 Freelance with SDL Trados Studio 2009 SP2 and SDL Passolo 2009 (I think it's Passolo Essential), and also Alchemy Publisher 3.0.

I study a university course: "User-centered software development (UCSD) with C#" as well as other programming languages, and translate technical manuals, instructions etc. for Chinese companies. In the long run, I want to do more and more translations in the field of software localization and web site localization.

To what extent can I begin using SDL Passolo 2009 Essential (or SDL Trados Studio 2009 or Alchemy Publisher 3.0) for software and web site localization in the beginning? The more specialised localization tools seem all seem to have a very high price tag on them, so the best would be if I could start with the CAT-tools that I already have, and later invest in a localization tool.

The localization tools I choose between are RC-WinTrans, SDL Passolo 2009, Alchemy Catalyst 8.0, Multilizer, and Sisulizer.

What about the requirements for my computer to be able to work with localization projects? I have a laptop now with Windows XP Pro SP3. I could read this about SDL Passolo 2009:

"A multilingual Windows XP is recommended for projects with Asian languages."

Does that mean I would need to install Multilingual User Interface Pack on my Windows XP (MUI-Pack)?
Which is not possible to purchase anymore, I've already been in contact directly with Microsoft 2-3 years ago regarding purchasing a MUI-Pack for Windows XP Pro. ▲ Collapse

I had some experiences in localization of websites. Among the software you mention, I must admit I know and use Alchemy Publisher 3.0. As far as I know, this software grants full compatibility with Trados and Wordfast as far as tm capabilities are concerned (i.e. you can import/export tm from trados and use them for translation).

To decide which software best suits your translation requirements, it depends on the original format of the file you have to translate). If you have the source file (html for instance) Catalyst 8.0 should be ok.
