Text view vs. table view
Jan 22
WFP uses table view by default (like SDLX and Studio), but there is also the text view option, which looks like WFC or Trados in Word. So perhaps we should drop this terminology with horizontal and vertical view. as it seems people do not know what others mean with it.
Some like the daughter, other the mother.

the right of choice
Jan 22
IMHO, the main point is not which view is better or how to call them, but to be given an option to choose what you want. And we can choose those CAT tools which let us choose what we need.

Both the horizontal and the vertical layout are metaphors from the real-world of pen and paper. When you used to translate with pen and paper, what did you do: place the paper on which you wrote your translation below the source document or to the right of it?
If you wrote your translation on the right of the original, you had to keep a finger (or a ruler or something) on the current line of the source document, so that you would not get lost. If, on the other hand, you wrote your translation below the original, you could use the top of the paper you were writing on to mark your current position in the source document.
