Xlf files - XLIFF Translation Editor

Please help me in the situation given below:

1.One our clients from Italy has supplied us xlf files to be
translated from Italian to English, that I assume is managed by HS
XLIFF Translation Editor.
2.Client has given us some already translated files txt, resx (C#),
C++ and XML.
3.I have already downloaded HS Xliff Translation Editor from
Heartsome a site that provides free download of this program.

Now the problems are

however I am able to open the file supplied by our client in this
downloaded HS xliff translation editor.
2.I do not know how I shall be able to make use of already
translated files supplied to us by our client in txt, resx (C#), C++
and XML format at HS xliff translation editor.

I shall highly appreciate if someone can teach me this.

Ravi,

You can use Heartsome's TMX Editor to align the txt and XML files and generate a translation memory in TMX format. For resx and C++ you will need to use a different tool.

Once you have the TMX, create a TM database in the XLIFF Editor and import the TMX. Select the new TM database as working TM using the 'Select Database" option from Database menu. After that, the program will start offering matches automatically.

Transolution may also be able to do the job for you:

Two others are Open Language Tools and Cafetran but I haven't got either of these to function fully.

Using TagEditor or any text editor Apr 9, 2006

Xlf files are xml-coded. You can open and edit xlf it in TagEditor or any text editor such as Notepad or EmEdit. If you choose TagEditor, please remember to save it as target file after completion.

Don't open and edit it in MS Office such as Word or FrontPage because it may insert lines of MS Office-specific code inside, which may result in error when your client processes it.

The last version is still that of August 2005; the original author has stopped developing it as he, if I remember correctly, has a new job and cannot spare Transolution any more time.

I've had more success with the Open Language Tools XLIFF editor since my post in April last year. Transolution seems to be able to open a large XLIFF file I generated with OLT, so the two are somewhat interoperable.
