Tracta del llibre de Frankenstein, quan la criatura es veu reflectida a l'aigua diu això:
"Quan vai estar totalment convençut que era el monstre que sóc, VAIG QUEDAR CORPRÈS AMB LES SENSACIONS MÉS AMARGUES D'ABATIMENT I MORTIFICACIÓ."
Si algú em pogués explicar que vol dir aquesta frase en altres paraules li agrairia.

Hola, albet.
Quina és la paraula que no entens? La frase per si mateixa no és massa complicada...
Aquest individu sembla que ha quedat sobtat i angoixat per haver descobert que és un monstre, cosa que li provoca aquests sentiments (amargura, abatiment i mortificació).
Em ve immediatament al cap el Gregori Samsa, protagonista de "La metamorfosi", de Kafka.

Pot ser l'original t'ajudarà a entendre'l millor:
"At first I started back, unable to believe that it was indeed I who was reflected in the mirror; and when I became fully convinced that I was in reality the monster that I am, I was filled with the bitterest sensations of despondence and mortification."

Crec que la paraula que et té confós és "corprès" - Crec que és un "tipo". Hauria de ser "sorprès" .
Però, es curiós que l'original no diu que estava sorprès tampoc
(al menys no én la secció citada. Diu abans "I started back" - que sí vol dir "sorprès" ).

Jo no crec que es tracti d'un "typo", sino que és participi de "corprendre" (un verb que m'encanta, per cert).

Contribueixo una mica tard però ho faig perquè també m'agrada molt aquest verb. "Corprès" és el participi del verb "corprendre".
CORPRENDRE
V TR Captivar el cor d'algú.
Castellà: cautivar FIG, conquistar FIG
Anglès: to captivate, charm
Francès: charmer, ravir, captiver
Alemany: bezaubern, packen

...then IMHO the context is all wrong. Read the original which I have reproduced in this debate. The monster is certainly not "charmed" or "captivated" at his appearance. He is horrified!
