Is it wrong? Jun 26, 2008

The client asks me if it is wrong, because he does not want to do the layout all over again. Besieds, it involves several kinds of fonts.

I really have no idea if it is wrong.

Bin,

Actually, I prefer English punctuation marks, even in Chinese texts. But that's just me. I'm sure the majority prefers traditional Chinese punctuation marks.

My language bar has a clickable choice that alternates between two options for entering Chinese text - I can select either English punctuation marks or Chinese punctuation marks.

I would think publishers also have this option when going to print. IMO it also boils down to preference. But if the target readership is mainly Chinese, I would have the publisher switch the fonts for the punctuation marks, and get it right.

I would leave it up to your client. Let him know that there is a difference. If he is quality conscious, he would know how to handle it.

In that case, I wouldn't worry about it. A comma is a comma - I wouldn't care if it looked like a tadpole or not

Calibri Jun 26, 2008

Personally... Jun 26, 2008

I am very particular about fonts. English words and numbers must be in an English font and Chinese characters and punctuations must be in a Chinese font. I would try to convince the client to spend a little time fixing this problem.

Good luck! Viel Glück!

Depends on your client's definite decision, but... Jun 26, 2008

I think it's not a question about Preference Or Not, actually whether or not to follow layout standard for Right or Wrong offering.

You can tell your client the truth and let her/him to make the final decision: to attract target language audience or force them to turn back and leave it as rubbish.
