不过,all these big words sound like mumble jumble to me.

(Note that this contrast between idealism and materialism has to do with the question of the nature of reality as such — it has nothing to do with advocating high moral standards, or the like.)

Steve,

stone,
I would say "some" is "some". Don't worry about using it too often.
But sometimes you can use "a few" or "certain" for a little variety, such as "a few people", "a certain few of us", etc.
Also you can avoid being repetitive by not referring directly to the people in question. For example, you can say "a certain mentality", "a particular opinion", "a common misconception", etc.
Please let me know if I didn't answer the right question.

The word euphemism is given a new name nowadays - being politically correct.

Never mind then. If you're interested though, look up the wikipedia page for "dialectical materialism".

Jason,
My personal opinion is that one-to-one term translations only work well for very specialized or technical texts. Like a "browser" is a 浏览器, a "mouse" is a 鼠标. When it comes to a specific field, the translation of technical terms such as these is usually straightforward. Anyway, the kind of political jargon that is frequently seen in highly politicized texts borders on being "specialized", if you know what I mean.
But even then, IMO there are usually some choices that could be made for something as plain and simple as 群众 or 人民群众, depending on the context and how you want to phrase your sentence.
Here are some terms I could think of ...
the masses
the people
we the people
we as a people
all people
common people
people collectively
people as a whole
There are many more ways to translate this term. My suggestion is to keep all options open, and select an equivalent that works best in the sentence and for the situation.
