Mar 21, 2014

Heard a new term today while watching an NHK program "Asia Insight" about a social trend in S. Korea - goose fathers.

The program sometimes has segments on China also. I don't make a point of watching programs like these; but they are quite informative when I do happen upon them.

p.s., On a more serious note, I must say both First Ladies look very good in this photo. They seem to genuinely like each other's company.

Thank you, Steve.

Hey, Yueyin. Thank you very much for the job lead and the recommendation. It's my own fault I lowballed my hourly rate. But I already signed the contract with the agency this morning.

Steve,

http://www.zhengjian.org/zj/book/html/ly3zt/l048.htm

Hertz Apr 5, 2014

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hertz

The definition of Hertz is "cycles per second". So isn't "Hertz per second" or "赫兹每秒" kind of redundant?

I noticed that with both Richard Quest's CNN reporting and a CCTV report that I found on the web.

But anyway, it's a great relief they detected the black box pinger signal.

A 37.5 KHz pulse at once per second intervals Apr 5, 2014

http://www.itnewsafrica.com/2014/03/flight-370-what-exactly-is-a-black-box/

Once the pinger comes in contact with water, it emits an ultrasonic pulse of 37.5 kHz at an interval of once per second – which is inaudible to the human ear. Locating the pingers for Flight 370 also forms a major part of the search, as the pingers only have a battery life of about 30 days – after which it is lost forever.

I guess this is what they meant - they picked up a signal of 37.5 KHz that was pulsing at one pulse per second intervals.

But like Mary Schiavo says: The signal should have kept going instead of lasting for only one and a half minutes.

http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/world/2014/04/05/smerconish-china-cctv-announcement-pinger-detection.cnn.html

So it seems like something is still amiss.
