Dear Friends and translators:
How exciting! I want to thank Jason and ProZ.com, the most professional translation site I have even been with, for establishing the Chinese Forum for us. How exciting! I want to thank Jason and ProZ.com, the most professional translation site I have even been with, for establishing the Chinese Forum for us. As everyone can recall, a few days ago we just made such a suggestion to setup a Chinese Forum for us, now we have it! I am very impressed by the efficiency of the staff at ProZ.com, and their trust to us that we can make a good use of this Forum.
Let us build together this Forum into a platform of our true virtual community, where we can help and support each other, learn from each other, and get objective opinions and advise from each other. Can we make it happen? Of course we can do it! Right?
At present, I have been appointed by Jason at ProZ.com as the Forum Moderator. I am flattered, yet honored. I do NOT think I am better than anyone of you to take this position. But there is one thing that you can trust me, that is, I enjoy very much to help people and like to speak of my mind. This is a volunteer job, and I will try my best to do it well.
Don抰 we all love to hear your frustration and/or successful stories? To learn from other people抯 experience, pitfalls and lessons will make ourselves grow better and sails smoother when we come into the similar situation. Do you agree?
I look forward to your support, comments and advices in the future! Please come and pour your heart out!
Sincerely,
Kevin Yang

When I was on business trip to China, I bought two bamboo-made brushes for the calligraphy...and from time to time I\'m trying to learn some of the signs and their meanings. It facinates me. So, here in ProZ I can enter chinese, russian, polish and other forums and feel myself very comfortable...this is the magic of ProZ... Good luck to all your friends! ▲ Collapse
Beware of unreliable agencies | Mar 9, 2002 |
Hi everybody! Even if I seldom take part in the activities of the ChineseEnglish group, I would like to congratulate for the opening of this new Chinese Forum.
I am not sure if this is the appropriate place to talk about agencies which are not so reliable about paying collaborators, but surely a lot of people will read this Forum and news spread quickly in this way...

I noticed a recent job posting by Mr. Harold Vadney (Company: TransComm International) which has 3 bids by now. I just want to tell everybody that recently, in an Italian mailing list for translators, some people reported that this agency is quite unreliable, some said they would never work for this agency unless they received pre-payment. So, better get the payment before doing the job?

Araksia, I enjoyed very much reading your message! I am so impressed by your achievements and experiences. I am fascinated about where you came from, too. I hope I could someday go there to visit. In 1998, I took 6 American friends and visited Mongolia. The local guide pointed to a border post and said Russia was on other side.

I was tickeled to hear that you were trying to use the brush pen. It was part of our home work when we were kids. Thank god it is no longer the only writing tool. I remember I visited a calligraphy show long time ago and saw some art works done by the foreigners in China. I found they were very creative, because their minds were not bound by the old Chinese rules, therefore could bring a surprising interpretation that could be mind-opening.
Thank you for your support and keep in touch!

I noticed a recent job posting by Mr. Harold Vadney (Company: TransComm International) which has 3 bids by now. Buon giorno,Federica! Thank you for your input. I am sure the information you brought up will alert many translators. It is always a good idea to check the company before bidding a job by using \"Agency rating\" feature under \"Extra\" on the Front Page of ProZ.com. At present there are many companies are listed but not enough rating info from the translators like you. This is so important that everyone should rate each agency they worked for. Perhaps we should even go further by only allowing the company or agency who has a bio established at ProZ.com before it can ask for a bid at this site. Do you know that the agency you mentioned actually is listed in our database. You should rate it right now. Grazie! ▲ Collapse

Re: Thank you for your imput | Mar 11, 2002 |
I agree everybody should rate the agencies they work for on the blue board, and that everybody should check the \"fame\" of agencies before bidding. But in this particular case I am afraid I cannot rate this agency (i.e. TransComm Int.) myself, because I have never worked for them. According to the discussion appeared on Langit (mailing list for translators in italian) the agency in question got negative reviews by more than one translator, but they might not report it on Proz if they ... Hey, David! Thank you for your greetings from Shanghai! That\'s very special. I was in Shanghai last October when the APEC was on. During the APEC meeting, the Taxi drivers were mad because there were not enough travellers, I had good time myself because I did not have to fight for traffics on the road and crowds in stores.
Please feel free to share your input and thought with our fellow translators here. Your perspectives will be definately highly appreciated. ▲ Collapse

Hi, Frederica: Can you tell me if you have ever worked for H. Vadney or ATCI? Did you have any problems with H. Vadney or with ATCI? Also, can you recall the name of the person posting the problem on the Italian mailing list? Or the mailing list itself? We'd like to settle any disagreements, if possible. Thanks very much and best wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous 2006!
