從《花樣年華》片中的一首歌談起

在王家衛的電影《花樣年華》片中，男主角梁朝偉站在女主角周曼玉的門前，猶豫著是否敲門時，耳邊響起 Nat King Cole 唱的〈Quizás, quizás, quizás〉。這首歌曲很有暗示的意味：歌名意思是「也許、也許、也許」。
Nat King Cole 的唱腔頗有拉丁味道，只是他那十足的美國腔西班牙語，清音出氣都太重了：「天不怕、地不怕，就怕老美說西班牙話」，偏偏 Nat King Cole 唱了這首〈Quizás, quizás, quizás〉。不過何妨？意思明白不就得了？
這首歌原本是古巴作曲家 Osvaldo Ferrés 在 1947 年，以介於 Bolero 和 Cha Cha Cha 之間的調子（稱為 Bolero Cha）譜成的歌曲，歌詞簡單但寫情深刻。Nat King Cole 唱的是變調兩次後的 Rumba 調子，一般在網上常找到聽到的不是 Cha Cha Cha 就是這個 Rumba 調，原來的 Bolero Cha 倒難得聽到。有趣的是，這首歌的英文翻譯歌詞：照直翻譯的根本無法唱出，反倒是重新填的詞給唱出名了。

當然，重填英文歌詞裡的 "If you can't make your mind up, we'll never get started." 也有一點語病，但那是為了和 "And I don't want to wind up, being parted, broken hearted." 押韻的緣故，情有可原。這種帶有一點點不道地的英語，反而讓這首歌的來源更為彰顯。想想美國境內有多少不同來源的民族，在那裡出生長大的人說的英語能夠有多麼道地？在中國旅行遇到的人開口說話，我們大概也都能聽出會是哪些個地方來的人。在台灣也如此，說客家語長大的和說河洛語長大的人，用字遣詞及語音腔調就是不同。不過，那些會透露出身世的腔調並不會影響人與人之間的溝通，反倒是溝通的態度會嚴重影響對話言語的腔調與格調。翻譯者對這些東西得有充份的敏感。

碰巧讀到 José María Valverde 返回西班牙前一年寫的〈巴比倫塔傾穨在詩人的頭上〉(La torre de Babel cae sobre el poeta – The Babylonian Tower Crashes over the Poet)，血脈遽然僨張、心跳猛烈加速。這首詩的語言如同歌唱哀歌呢！

前天跑去看了一部 Theo Angelopoulos 拍的片子 Trilogy: The Weeping Meadow (中譯〈哭泣的草原〉)。這部電影講的是一個哀傷的故事，如果沒有好聽的音樂還真的很令人窒息，無法看下去！
片中除了主題曲〈哭泣的草原〉是新編的之外，其它樂曲都採自地球上各個民族的音樂，尤其是俄羅斯和拉丁美洲的音樂。雖然敘述的是發生在 1921 到 1953 年間的故事，但那群樂師所演奏的音樂卻不按著時序。這倒也無妨，好聽又能傳達感情就好。最令我喜歡的是 Juan Luis Guerra 作的 Amapola (罌粟花)，歌詞已有翻譯成能唱的英文，與西班牙文原文一同貼在底下，讓有興趣的翻譯同人參考。

前幾天在 HBO 上又看了一次 Armand Assante 和 Antonio Banderas 主演的 The Mambo Kings。這部片子原本是虛構的小說，故事蠻感人的，配上 Paola & Chiara 作曲、填詞的 La bella María de mi amor (Beautiful Maria of My Soul) 倒也真動人。

放鬆心情看早報，一面又聽 Vika Tsyganova 唱的 Когда я уйду (When I Leave)，這首歌的確好聽，乾脆把推敲了許久定不了稿的翻譯歌詞貼出來給同仁指點好了：
