周总理一再教导我要忠诚、老实。令我终生难忘的一件事，就是陪同周总理出席北京市为欢迎尼泊尔首相阿查利亚举行的欢迎会。北京市市长彭真宣布向外宾献旗、献礼。我坐在那里，脑子里不知在想什么，走了神，因此没有给尼泊尔首相翻这句话。总理提醒我说："你怎么没有翻给外宾听？"由于没有注意听，因此也不知道翻什么。只隐隐约约听到献礼两个字，我就对外宾说："要向您献礼了。"总理马上补充说："还有献旗。"刚好此时彭真的翻译在麦克风里宣布，向外宾献旗、献礼。我立即答复总理说："已经翻了。"总理当时没有说什么，过了一会儿，总理严肃地批评我说："小冀，你没有说实话。"此后不久，我去听总理的一次内部报告。总理教导大家说："为人一定要老实。特别是对待工作，绝不能欺骗。如果欺骗，小则害了自己，大则危害国家。"虽然总理那次是对大家说的，但我一直铭记在心。
