Why are we (as a community) doing English translations of the forum topics? Do we need them? Does it matter if the translations are 'correct' English or not? What do peers think?

Dear All,

This thread was posted for many days and no one bothered to respond. For a closure, I decided to post a response.

To translate the topic/title of each thread is an improvement for providing user-friendly and convenient service to ALL visitors regardless they can or cannot read Chinese characters. For your information, Chinese Forum is visited by the Management Staff and translators of other languages on a regular basis. The bilingual thread titles will help our visitors to know what each thread is about before entering it. As a Chinese community, we welcome everyone who cares about us to visit our forum and participate in our discussions.

Kevin

I hate to be impolite... Apr 5, 2006

But I would recommend that Kevin should NOT use past tense in titles, captions etc. Simple present tense is most preferred. Sometimes, -ing form (but not progressive form) is also used.

This is discussed in details in the CGEL (A Comprehensive Grammar of the English Language, or 《朗文英语语法大全》.
