我们的工作中有时(不一定经常)会碰到广告文的翻译,实际上不是纯粹的翻译,而是如何在反映出短小精悍原文意思同时的一种艺术创作。

欢迎有这方面特长(往往是有一定的天分)的同僚,尤其是新同僚能在这栏贴出你自己比较得意的文宣稿。如果确实做得好,我相信会有不少同僚在有类似材料时找你合作。

昨夜有德国客户找我紧急翻译一篇广告文,篇幅不大,才 293 个字。但因手头一堆文稿,所以先把稿子交给一位初入本行的同仁试译成繁体中文,然后今天下午才由我做一些调整。 调整后的文稿附在本帖后头,敬请多多指教。

我个人认为,广告文稿需要至少三人处理,否则必有瑕疵。我做的这个定稿其实还有些问题。不过,一分钱一分货,依客户给的价码,我以两个人的努力也只能做到如此。相信中文同仁里还有许多人才,你在此招才,如有可用者,我当然也会试着与之合作,怎能闷声不吭、不道谢的呢?

所以,先说谢谢了!

品酒的艺术 - 快乐似神仙

葡萄酒是人类最古老的文化产物之一。古希腊人和古罗马人早已把葡萄酒奉为天神赐予的玉液琼浆。那些伟大的思想家、诗人和哲学家只须小酌一盅,即能激起热情,将他们的灵感挥洒在作品中。相较于饮酒的文化,喝茶与喝咖啡在欧洲的文化发展里,算是资历浅短。时至今日,越来越多的人懂得品酒。

仔细研究饮酒的历史,我们会发现葡萄美酒之为物,所为为何:它当然不是为了止渴而酿造出来的,它是用来诱导人的感官知觉,同时又使心灵合谐,也让精神受到激励。诗就是想象,没有想象就没有诗,在葡萄酒里则是两者兼而有之。

由于如此,葡萄酒里还有一种促进沟通的成分。说来,还有什么比得上志趣相投的好友相聚饮酒作乐更能令人开怀交心的呢?

一般认为饮酒的最佳人数是成双捉对。相信大多数的人都会同意这个说法。一方面因为独饮无助于心灵交流;另一方面于一瓶葡萄酒的容量若要分给三个人喝,肯定令人感到不够恣意畅快。

打开葡萄酒瓶之前,当然会想到饮酒的时机和缘由。是为了搭配食物,当作佐餐酒呢?或也可以是单纯品尝的佳酿?无论是红葡萄酒或是白葡萄酒,是清涩或酸甜,带有气泡或不带气泡,是浓烈的初酿或香醇温厚的陈年老酒,每一种葡萄酒都有其特别适合饮用的时机和场合。即使品酒专家也往往会遭遇到选择的困难呢!

仔细考量品酒的时机和场合,即可找到恰当的葡萄美酒,于是像古往今来的那些思想家、诗人和哲学家那般小酌一番,如同葡萄美酒的存在,无限地丰富了这个缤纷的世界。这又何止是快乐似神仙!

广告文的翻译已经不仅仅是翻译,更加考量文字功底了。对wenjer 的“广告文稿至少需要三人处理,否则必要瑕疵”深有体会。此类翻译过程中往往需要灵感的推动。上文wenjer贴出的文稿琅琅上口,成语的运用恰到好处,完全看不出翻译的痕迹,已经是很棒的翻译文稿了。
个人觉得在第一遍初译后,在保证恰当的表达出意思的同时,请文字功底深的人审阅修改,此时不让他看到外文原文,这样不至于让中文英文同时映入脑中,干扰了灵感,阻碍了创意,完成之后在给初译的人看,确保原意不会有差离。这种流程也许会好些。

  1. 不同的文化价值观
  中国文化的价值观有深厚的人文主义精神,人的价值通过“内省”、“克己”来表现。儒家倡导的“修身、齐家、治国、平天下”强调道德规范自觉能力,形成中国人内倾的性格。美籍华裔杨朝阳教授认为:“中国人注重广告的产品内容,讲实证。其文化背景是道—佛—儒家伦理、宗教行为,有宿命论色彩,有整体取向,关系建立在实证上。”而西方人是外倾的性格,更注重产品广告的外在形式,讲感观效果。
  2. 不同的心理结构
  中国国民稳固的心理结构,以“仁”、“务实”、“忍耐”为基本内容,形成中国人特有的文化心理。具体表现为大统一观念:重权威、轻事实;从众心理:重群体、轻个体;小农意识:重实惠、轻意念;人情至上:重道德、轻效果;平均主义:重搭配、轻竞争。而西方人的心理结构较复杂松散,“人本”、“认知”、“行为”为其基本内容,形成西方特有的文化心理。
  3. 不同的地域环境与人文环境
  中国作为四大文明古国,处肥沃之地,以居住地为本衍出“家本位”,家庭观念强;而西方国家不及中华民族历史悠久,加之地域狭小,经常迁徙,家园观念淡化,强调自由的生活及个人冒险超越。(刘士军、继红:1994)
  广告文化属亚文化,是依附于主体文化的。随着世界经济的发展,经济、科学技术国际交流的增多,世界正向“地球村”的方向发展,广告文化的融合也再所难免。中国对商品文化的追求也趋向于“新、名、精、美”。中国人传统的使用功能型消费也正逐步由文化审美型所代替。
  翻译国际广告时能深谙中西文化的异同,无疑可使该广告跨越东西南北,有的放矢,行之有效。

我搜索到一些有趣的英文广告,每个广告字数不超过20个单词,但是算是比较有趣。大家如果有谁比较空闲的话可以挑选自己有心得的翻译之后贴出来。当然如这个帖子的主题,贴出自己比较得意的文案更是欢迎。

记得曾在网上看到过一则产品广告,标题是“效果不能再令人满意!” 我不禁感到疑惑:既然“效果不能再令人满意”,何不关张回家卖红薯?仔细一看,原来其原文是“The results couldn't be more satisfying!”
