Yes, the snow must have been devastating to the Southern Provinces and therefore the economy as a whole.
You would think a 10% change overnight would make it into the news, but NO! The good thing is the average Chinese citizen probably wouldn't feel the impact, similar to the devaluation of the U. S. Dollar over here.

你们俩别开玩笑了. 虽说我炒股的年头不少, 还是不时在 timing 上犯错.
倒是有这么说的: the market usually looks ahead about 6 months. So if there were to be an ecomomic recovery 6 months down the road, now would be the time to be buying. But that would be a big if!

I think it's also a good idea to keep an eye on the Fed Funds Rate. The Fed's gonna keep cutting until it gets the desired effect of kick-starting the economy.
Of course this is the U.S. economy. But with today's globalization, most economies are joined at the hip.

The Fed is indeed caught between a rock and a hard place. They have to worry about inflation on the one hand, and slowing the growth of the U.S. economy on the other.
From the steep rate cuts by the Fed we've seen most recently, it seems the latter concern won the tug of war. They're cutting rates with all abandon -- growth of the economy needs to be sustained at all costs; forget everything else
Adding liquidity to the financial system probably also helps to relieve some pressure of the credit crunch brought on by the subprime lending debacle.
