I think it depends on where you get the assignment. I would say 45 USD per hour is an average price. Actual price could vary around this price. Of course it depends on the nature of the interpretation jobs, like whether its consecutive interpretation or simul. But there is not much difference if the interpretation doesn't require special knowledge in a specific field. Generally, I don't think simul interpretation jobs in the states pay as well as those in China. But there are exceptions.

Feb 23, 2007

Interpretation Services Billing Guidelines - Effective July 1, 2005
Services of interpreters of foreign languages are billed per hour. The standard rate is $80.00 per hour for interpreters*, and $100 per hour for Federal and State Court certified interpreters**.
There is a two-hour minimum for all interpretation assignments.
An hourly rate for travel will be assessed (in addition to the cost of interpretation,) if outside of the Nashville Metropolitan area. When applicable, mileage is calculated at .42 per mile.
If interpretations are requested for hours other than regular business hours (8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.), a surcharge of $10.00 an hour will be assessed.

sounds about right. But if an interpreter gets the job from translation agency, he/she probably can only get half of the price with exceptions for court interpreters.

Thank you both. This really helps.

I wonder whether there will ever be a Translation Services Billing Guidelines

20/HOUR Feb 23, 2007
