此人在英国。一个多星期前发电子邮件给我询价，同时把他自己的英文小说中的两章也寄给我参考。我很快就提供了报价，并询问了他几个与中文翻译有关的问题。结果他回答的很慢，隔了一、两天才恢复。我的问题有: 你的小说总字数是多少？你的出版商在哪里？读者主要在什么地区？他没有回答，但是他说，他需要在一个月后参加一个与出版商的见面会，希望届时能拿到这两章的中文翻译作为样稿交给出版商看。我还是报了价，而且要求对方必须先缴纳全额翻译费$1,200美元，然后才能开始翻译。对方欣然接受了我的条件。还说他的出版商可能会把他存在出版商那里的钱汇给我，金额会超过我的实际报价金额。两天后，FedEx果真把一张公司支票寄给了我。打开一看，支票上写的是$3,500美元。
我感到种种迹象太可疑了。就仔细观察支票上的信息。我要$1,200美元，他却给了$3,500美元。FedEx邮件来自佛罗里达州，但是公司支票确是设在 德拉瓦州的交易公司，我上网一查才发现支票上写着的公司根本不是出版公司。这时，我又收到他的邮件，指示我把多余的款项立即通过Western Union(西联)电汇给他。那邮件里的文字太熟悉了，因为我们一两年前在本中文论坛讨论过这类诈骗案。我刚收到的支票，根本还没有来得及从银行兑现，即使存入银行，银行也需要一个星期的时间才能兑现。我怎么可能现在就拿我自己的钱去电汇给他呢？他可能以为我的智商和他一样低。我怎么会上他的当呢？这条狡猾的英国狐狸撞上一个细心的蒙古猎手了。
我下面把此事总结一下，供大家参考：
1。对方采用的是选用两章小说，大约1.2万多字，请我报价。
2。强调时间比较短，需要在两个星期把中文翻译完成。
3。没有讨价还价，而且很快同意全额预付翻译费。
4。对方的电子邮件的落款常常没有联系信息，有时有地址，但是没有电话和传真号码。
5。对方英文很不规范，用词，拼写和格式很不专业，还喜欢使用奇怪的英文字体。可以断定不是英国有文化教育的鸟。很可能是外来户。
6。使用联邦快递，在一两天后把公司支票送达府上。
7。支票的金额要比实际报价金额多出一倍以上。
8。在你收到支票的当天，它就会发电子邮件给你，要求你把多付的金额电汇给他，比如通过Western Union(西联)。
9。所给的收款人的信息奇怪又可笑，还上帝，保佑之类的。上帝有灵。怎么不咒死这种败类？
10。收到这样的支票后，千万不要存入你的银行帐户。那是一张空支票，他是骗你钱的，跟你玩得是个时间差。
我必须将此人的信息和两份邮件公布出来，帮助大家识别这条英国狐狸：

You absolutely handled this the right way. It's a good reminder.
A while back Shaunna ran into a similar scam. It got along further such that she actually deposited the check. Luckily she had her suspicions and didn't get burnt in the end.
It happened about the time you were visiting China. In that thread we discussed how this kind of fraud was typically carried out.

你太有才了！一句话就识破了他的把戏。我们今后一见这样的人和邮件就要赶快将其笔名和电子邮件公布出来，供大家参考。这种东西不配享有隐私保护的优待。

Thank you for reminding me. You were right. When I saw such emails and something in the back of my mind was telling me to raise the flag, because everything seemed to be familiar to me. These scum bags keep changing their ways to allure people in, but the re-funding tactic is always the same.
I was re-thinking of my self-nominated job title, please let me know what you think and if you can come up with something better. I would like to use it in my signature box at the bottom of each of my price quote emails.
