Globalization Sep 4, 2011

I hate to say this, but the way I see it, you either provide some extra value add, or risk getting replaced by someone who can do the same job at a lower price. Of course, there's a huge caveat as to what could be construed as "the same job".

The nature of this phenomenon is not too much different than the offshoring of millions of American jobs in the past few decades.

p.s. Please don't view my words as being controversial. The way I see it, globalization is a fact of life. The only way to counter its effect, IMO, is to excel in your services and to provide a superior final product. Yueyin is right about the importance of specialization. You basically offer a skill set that others could not.

Jie,

I agree with you. Everyone's circumstances are different.

I think one has to have a true understanding of where one stands in the market "food chain", so to speak. Self confidence and a realistic evaluation of what one brings to the table are equally important.

http://n1.81813.com/wj/hot/09042011/215448299.shtml

Well, that was only a figure of speech. And I would have felt a little funny if somebody else said that about me.

In this instance, I was indeed sitting in front of my computer. But with today's plethora of electronic devices to choose from, I could have typed that post from anywhere. I could have been lying on the floor in front of a TV monitor, for example.
