Definitely new breed. But I'm confused - is it a new breed of dogs or new breed of linguists.

I didn't say that Mar 1, 2009

BTW John, I believe you wouldn't mind if I draw your attention to one misinterpretation. "Kopile, pl. kopilad" is actually an offspring whose parentage is unknown. You might have used "križanac" which means "interbreed". I have a feeling that's what you wanted to say.

But I'm turning this off-topic into a serious tone. Sorry about it.

Cheers from Down-Under!

križanac i križanje Mar 2, 2009

All I wanted to say is that "kopile" is one very offensive expression in Croatian. And we don't want to offend anyone, do we?

Have a good start of a week.

"biser" ipak ima svoj sjaj (barem donekle) Mar 17, 2009

još jedan biser... sorry, I could not resist Jun 26, 2009

For our fellow translators who are not native Croatian speakers : in Croatian "kojeg" is used only for persons (two or four legged ones). For objects or abstract notions one should use "koji" in the accusative case.

e.g.
Čovjek na kojeg sam naišao.
Potražni pas na kojeg sam naišao.
Novinski članak na koji sam naišao.
So, not "biser na KOJEG sam naišao", but "biser na KOJI sam naišao"

I have never met a four-legged " person"; perhaps only in SF movies/cartoons and video games.

If it's an animal then it can't be referred to as a " person".

However, in essence, our colleague made her point really well - "kojeg" is really used for any kind of beings while "koji" is used for objects, and many non-native Croatian speakers find it confusing.
