I am using DreamWeaver MX. I am trying to modify a php file. The page has four sections: top (text), image, body (text) and a footer (text). But I can only see the body of the page. I tried to change the view options, but all proved fruitless. What should I do to see all sections?

Sounds like you've just got the html file Jun 29, 2009

I think you might need the actual php file, and probaly the database it's pulling info from, as this sounds like a dynamic page. Opening an html page in Dreamweaver is never going to give you the linked pages - css, js, php, or whatever, incl. database entries. You need the actual files/database.

I suggest asking the client to send you the actual file/s with the text you you need to translate.

I'm just a beginner when it comes to php/databases Jun 29, 2009

But didn't the designer build you some kind of cms (content mangement system) that you can use for updating dynamic content? Or teach you about database tools you can use (such as MySql)?

To my limited knowledge, a php page (server script) works with pulling dynamic data from a database. So this, the database, is where you need to update all but the page's static content.

Sorry, I've only got limited knowledge about this so will leave it to more knowledgeable colleagues to give you better answers.

probably what you are looking for is Jun 30, 2009

stored in several files. Even if the main file contains information about the entire layout it uses information from other files as well.

The best advice I can give you is use Firefox and install extension called: Firebug available from: https://addons.mozilla.org/pl/firefox/addon/1843 it let's you analyze each fragment of your website and see where and how particular fragment is defined.

If your website is based on a database like in case of Joomla the required fragment may be stored in a database instead of an php file and the weppage is created "on the fly" however such websites almost always have an administration panel and you should be able to modify your by means of such panel.

Cheers
Stanislaw
