I am seeking to establish a team of native French speaking translators (bilingual French-English OK) who would work together occasionally on large projects.

I reside in Perth, Australia. Ideally, the team would be composed of 3 translators including myself. Please leave a message if you are interested so we can discuss details.

Thierry, I might be interested in collaborating on sports-related projects. I see that you are in Perth, the amount of nautical activity where you are is high. Check out my profile and contact me if you think there is something of interest/use to you.

Hi Thierry,

Sounds intriguing. What field(s) do you mean? I\'d be interested in going from French to English, depending on the subject matter, of course. I\'m an opera singer & writer, & am pretty new to Proz. If you\'d like, you can check out my profile & then email me if you\'re interested.

Good to hear about other translators in this area (Oz). I have NAATI 3 in Mandarin - English, and I\'m taking French Level 3 this month (after reading French novels for over twenty years). Je vous souhaite le succes dans ce nouveau projet.

I do not intend to start a translation agency, the idea is to set up a register of translators who can help each other when a large project comes along with a very tight deadline, and then share the fee. What I need is some consensus on your rates, what do you think is an acceptable rate per word? I do think freelance translators need to be competitive in comparison to agencies. What do you think?Collapse

Rates : agencies vs. freelancers Nov 1, 2001

In my experience, freelancers are generally much more competitive than agencies. The translator who actually does the job gets more in his pocket at the end of the day, so he\'s happy. The client pays less to have the same person doing the job, so he\'s happy too. As to apply when freelancers are working as a team, then the person negotiating with the client is no doubt best placed to determine the rate, depending on the job and all sorts of other factors which might come into play.

Hello Thierry,

I have just seen your offer today, so I think it may be too late for being part of this team of translators. Anyway, if not, I\'m a French translator specialized in the fields mentioned above, plus general texts and books. I feel quite interested in meeting other colleagues and speaking directly with them rather than always working with an agency, which I\'m currently doing. Hi Thierry,

I have a PhD in Economic Engineering (ingénierie économique) and a post-graduate education in conference interpretation (simultaneous and consecutive). I have worked over 15 years in translations, specialising in my own professional domain, economics, business ,management and software related to these domains (supply-chain management, CRM, KNowledge Management, Business Intelligence tools, data mining tools etc.

I do a lot of internationl reports(sector development and donor aid programs). Being a simultaneous interpreter I can do fast translations at the speed of conference interpreting which I have a secretary type out (it\'s something like speed factor 5), that\'s why I might be interesting to such a team/I might be interested in taking part in a team.

Language levels:

French: level A

English level B

Danish: level A

the A,B,C levels apply to conference interpretation where the mental word processing is done under great stress.

Concretely:

I do general texts, medical, phamaceutical (I have conducted own research in a subdomain)+ my professional domain in ENG>FR

and I do texts related to my professional domain both ways, i.e. also FR>ENG.

I often have to decline very large projects for the same reasons as you opened with, that\'s why I\'d be interested.

Rates: I never had a problem getting my own rates applied anywhere in my domain with clients who know me (starting from 0.35 and + per word). I think rate bargaining is just a matter proving to the client what kind of value the client gets at the end of the job.

However, I\'m open to other suggestions.

Based in France to keep up with the many language developments in the domain, with my (own)company registered in Denmark.

Best regards

Carole
