At last, Alexandre DUMAS, the gandson of Césette Dumas, the Haitian slave woman, was honored by President Chirac, last Saturday.

A tribute long OVERDUE!

For all LE MONDE articles related to this momentous event, please consult link below.

I am sorry, these are French articles only. I don\'t know if foreign press has echoed this wonderful news yet.

Perhaps, they still don\'t know...

Oh that's an oldie. Dec 5, 2002

I think it was Einstein that said of France and his theory, \"If I\'m right, they\'ll call me a Frenchman, and if I\'m wrong, they\'ll call me a Jew.\"

Then there\'s Mrs. Josephine Bonaparte who wasn\'t plain vanilla either.

Arthur, your last comment cracked me up. As usual, you never lose your sense of humor...

Well, if I may add a comment, I would say that contrary to a host of French or other nationals, the Dumas have always ASSUMED their biracial heritage, and have even proudly flaunted it in an era when such attitude has cost them in reputation and otherwise.

Alexandre Dumas, Sr. by adopting the maiden name of his slave mother (Dumas) acted in such an heroic and sublime manner that I can\'t help admiring him!

That\'s why I am doubly embracing these colossal men both for their accomplishments and their moral character.

And doubly PROUD of them TOO!!.
