Unzip the file, then open the XLIFF file in a Unicode editor. Be careful to edit only target text (not source text). When you're done, zip it again and change the file extension back.

Dyngrep will do that for you Oct 3, 2011

We just released the latest version of DYNGREP, a freely available Windows tool for searches in files of many different formats, including .xlz, .lwo, .ttx and many more. Available here: http://www.esaro.se/en/dyngrep.php

If you're working with .xlz, you can restrict searches to source/target segments by enterin "target" or "source" in the Converters/Ignore Tags box. Enjoy!
