I have a large PDF file that needs to be translated, but the format seems not work well with most of the CAT tools, especially the segmentation problem. Does any body here have good ideas?

Hi "surfish",
This issue (and the related query on how to convert PDF into an editable format) has been discussed numerous times in various forum threads. As the very purpose of PDF is to prevent editing, you cannot use CAT tools to work with a PDF file.
You can use the "Search" function on the left-hand side to search for related threads.
HTH, Ralf

Now I know conversion into an editable format is necessary before use of a CAT tool.

You can use Abbyy FineReader to convert a PDF file to Word or rtf. The resulting file is very neat and presents to my experience no segmentation problems.
