Hi! I would like to know how to count words on a PDF file. Is there a way the file can give you a word count?

If it's a text-extractable pdf, then click "copy file to clipboard" and paste into an rtf. The formatting will be shot to hell but the word count should work well. HTH

The only way you can do this is by selecting the text with the "Text Select Tool", copying (CTRL+C)it and then pasting it into a Word document (CTRL+V). It's a rather tiresome process, but I believe it is the only way to do it... If you are lucky, you will be able to select the full text in a single step, but depending on the document, you may need to do this page by page. This process may also require extensive editing work afterwards.

There are several software packages that will count words on PDF files. Some are free, others require payment.
I use Translators Abacus, which you can download free from http://www.globalrendering.com/
But there is also Practicount

This has come up in several previous threads, you might want to search the forums for "PDF count".
I've been using PDFcount for a few years (but is seems to be no longer available), and Word counter from http://www.abracadabrapdf.net/pages/fr/abracompteur. This is a free plug-in, for Reader or Acrobat, quick and easy.

Hi, Mary.
abracompteur (link in my earlier post, above) is also available for Mac and Linux, it's a free plug-in for either Reader or the full Acrobat application, version 5 and 6
(Check this thread in the Apple/Mac forum, http://www.proz.com/topic/21505, about the same issue)
