Is it possible to count words in the scanned pages?

Sometimes, the clients send the scanned pages for translation. It poses some sort of a problem as I have been unable to find a way to count the words automatically because I have to be paid on the basis of source text. I am left with no other option but to count the words manually, which consumes a great deal of time.

I want to ascertain whether it is possible to count the words automatically? If so, please explain the detailed procedure.

Use OCR Dec 7, 2004

Use an OCR program to convert the scanned pages to editable text and then count words as usual.

Manual counting is a bore. If the source text is not in soft copy, manual counting can be a botheration. Target text is typed by you and it is suitable for wordcounting software. I have worked out rates for both contingencies.
