Happy new year to you reader,

I upgraded my laptop Compaq EVO from 2000 to XP home and my battery life dropped from 1 hour to 20 minutes max. The power management options are the same though.
Does anyone experienced the same ?
Is there something I could do ?

I don't believe it has to do with WinXP Jan 6, 2005

Batteries tend to end their life sometime.
One possibility I can think of is that all your XP Services are running, as Bill by default has set them to. Many of them can be switched off to save resources.
I can recommend to consult this homepage- I myself have consulted it for years to effectively configure my computers:

Windows 2000 has matured to become a crash-proof, perfectly working operating system if one prerequisite is met:

Your computer's hardware must be free from defects and glitches.

My PC works so perfectly that it didn't crash or freeze since when I beefed it up with new, excellent hardware (power supply with extremely silent fan, mainboard, processor with extremely silent fan, graphics card perfectly suited for translation jobs, 1 GByte of RAM, DVD reader, and DVD burner) for the extremely low price of € 598. Only the enclosure and the diskette drive have remained the same.

Windows XP is just a bloated piece of software for gaming kids but not for people using their computers for making €€€ or $$$.
