Hello everybody,

I need to make one folder in my PC accesible as a web FTP (I think that how it's called). In other words I want to make one folder and its contents accessible to a remote computer.

Until last week this was possible but I had to format my computer and I don't rememeber how I did it. I was using Core FTP to manage my FTP connections but I guess that won't help me configuring my own FTP.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Claudia

FTP server? Jul 9, 2005

My experience is limited to file sharing on Windows LAN's and http transfer using Apache on Linux.

According to:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304040

the same rules for setting of permissions applies to web access as local access. For remote access it looks as if attention needs to be paid to the Internet Connection Firewall.

I think, though, that you will need an ftp server. Core FTP is an ftp client to be used for downloading files from an ftp server; Core FTP Server is still being tested according to:

http://www.coreftp.com/server/

[On Linux to change file permissions one uses the chmod command. With the Apache http server one places the files available for transfer either in the default folder for the purpose or in a folder which you “tell” Apache is (also) to be used.]

If I understand you well, you need to install and run an FTP Server on your PC, granting access rights to some users.

I use with great satisfaction, on Win XP with an ADSL line, Bulletproof FTP Server 2.3. It is extremely easy to install and configure, and yet fully featured.
I can create accounts, set their access rights in a particular folder, make available or receive files from the authorized users.

I highly recommend this product.
Hope This Helps

Gianfranco
